    Down Syndrome

Today i had a  talk with my friend  Cha  ..she was so excited abt the visit  she had this poya day to a home with kids with Down Syndrome in Colombo. .The warmth  and love she felt there was indescribable..I agreed completly with her,coz i have the same experience. For the parents its a shock when the baby is born, but this feeling changes very quickly.

Down syndrome (DS) is a condition in which extra genetic material causes delays in the way a child develops, and often leads to mental retardation. It affects 1 in every 800 babies born.

The symptoms of Down syndrome can vary widely from child to child. While some kids with DS need a lot of medical attention, others lead very healthy and independent lives.

Though Down syndrome can't be prevented, it can be detected before a child is born. The health problems that can go along with DS can be treated, and there are many resources within communities to help kids and their families who are living with the condition.

Normally, at the time of conception a baby inherits genetic information from its parents in the form of 46 chromosomes: 23 from the mother and 23 from the father. In most cases of Down syndrome, however, a child gets an extra chromosome - for a total of 47 chromosomes instead of 46. It's this extra genetic material that causes the physical and cognitive delays associated with DS

    Here i post a story

I got a call from my father that my sister in-law was about to give birth.  So off I went just in time to see T.J into the world.  I was so proud when I left the hospital and so hurt when my brother (T.J'S Father) called me with the news that T.J had Downs.  I cryed all the way back to the hospital.  Once I held my buddy again as a Down Syndrome baby, there was no turning back for me. He had my love forever and I thank my brother and sister in-law for giving me such a joy every day of my life.  By the end of the day T.J was born, my Brother said he loved me, kicked me out of the hospital and said tomorrow is another day.  So I left. On the way out I was looking at all the other families that had babies that day and I felt sorry for them because we got the special one in our family.  T.J is 17 months now and very active and healthy. He has his whole life to teach me every thing he will learn.

    Giving life after ur death

A child waiting for an organ to stay alive.............weeks..months...
Parents who pray ...... how wierd it may sound ......  they pray to God for saving their child, but that means that another person has to die.

    Organ Donation
    Last night saw a program
it was an interview with parents of a very very young girl. The girl was brain dead, and the doctors asked the parents if they could think abt the fact
to donate the organs of their lil girl...At such moments its very hard for the parents to decide for such an emotional matter.
First the husband said no....no. dont cut in my lil girl. The mom was cryng like hell ..... but agreed with the donation...After short time
the father agreed also...The father was so afraid that his lil girl would be cut in pieces...But the surgeon told him  that they will operate his lil girl  with the most respect ever..and that after the operation he could see her...So the father was reassured  that his child could be burried with dignity.

With the organs of the lil girl  4 kids got a good life...
    .

Hospitals cry for organs...So many good organs unused....So many ppl that could be saved...But helas...

    SeX or Violence

Why do so many parents get upset when their kids see sex,
but not even blink an eye when they're exposed to violence on TV,
in movies or in video games?

Only in the United States is sex considered more "dangerous" than violence.
In European media, no one makes much of a fuss about nudity, for example. If you're seeing a TV show or movie about a couple and they're waking up in the morning and getting out of bed, you might get a glimpse of someone's derriere, just incidentally. If that occurred on American television, however, you'd see news stories about it for weeks, threatened boycotts by watchdog groups, threats by local TV stations not to air the show and Congressional representatives threatening to hold hearings.
More than 3,500 studies have found that media violence is a significant risk factor for children and adolescents, and that it increases the likelihood of aggressive behavior, as well as desensitizing even non-violent kids
Is media violence responsible for all violence in society? No, not at all. In fact, it only contributes an estimated 10-30%. Poverty, racism, personality disturbances and family chaos all contribute more. But we could do something about media violence if we wanted, and thus make society safer. We could show less violence in our media. We could show the consequences of violence on individuals and families. We could show more TV shows and movies that have anti-violence themes. And we could show less use of weapons, especially handguns.
A mom  cant get her kid to sleep after seeing scary movie...
should she have the same prob  if the kid had seen naked brest???? I dont think so....

    What about sex?

Well, for kids under the age of 8 or 10, most of the sexual content or innuendoes they see just go right over their heads. They simply do not understand what's happening (unless, of course, someone makes a fuss about it). For pre-teens and teens, yes, sexual portrayals are important, and there is increasing evidence that teens exposed to a lot of sexual content in their media are more likely to begin having sex at a younger age. But the problem here is that media is serving as a very powerful sex educator for kids, primarily because they're not getting good, effective, comprehensive sex education at home from their parents or in schools. If we did a better job of educating kids about sex — instead of "abstinence-only" or "just say no" — they would probably be relatively immune to the effects of sexual content in movies and on TV.

So, in short, you are absolutely right: We need to worry far more about the impact of media violence on kids in this country and less about whether they see two seconds of a performer's bare breast on a Super Bowl halftime show.

    Body language

    Everyone uses body language

People can not live without each other, we are social beings. As soon as we are in contact with others we are communicating. For this we can make use of spoken and written language. In these ways we make the content of a message clear to each other. However we can also communicate without words. This kind of communication tells us something about the relationship between people. Often this is more important than getting the content of the message across. The communication about this non spoken communication, which tells us something about the relationship between people, is called Meta-Communication. Communicating about communication!

When we connect with a person, we also have to make it clear to each other how the content of a spoken message needs to be interpreted. How we do this says something about the relationship we have with the other person, or think we have anyway. Often words are inadequate for this purpose. For instance we do not tell each other that easily how we feel about each other, or how the words of a message need to be interpreted. To make the meaning of our words clear we use body language. Body language is a language without spoken words and is therefore called non verbal communication. We use body language all the time, for instance looking someone in the eyes means something different than not looking someone in the eyes. In contact with others it is just not possible to be not communicating something.

Body language is used especially to express feelings. For instance if we do not like someone, it is often difficult to say that directly to the person. However we can make it clear either intentionally or unintentionally through body language. The opposite is also true. We may say that we ARE angry through words yet our body language may be saying loud and clear that we are NOT. This can be very confusing for the receiver. This is usually described as giving out double messages - one message in words and an opposite message in body language. It is also difficult to lie or cover up our feelings through body language. People may give their true feelings away by not being aware of their body language. Research has shown that most people pay more attention to, and believe more readily, their impression of how a person acts through body language than what is said through words. As a consequence we tend to doubt, or put a question mark behind, the spoken words if they do not correspond with the language of the body .

How we come across to someone is decided only for a small part by the words we speak. To leave a good impression behind, say at a job interview, it is important that we know, and to a certain extent can control, our body language. The person on the receiving end of our body language will have a feeling or impression that is often difficult to describe - difficult to put into words or difficult to prove what actually was communicated. Haven't we all said at times: 'I have a feeling he/she likes me', or something like: 'I doubt if what he/she is saying is really the truth'. This type of feeling is called intuition. Body language plays a big role in intuition as it gives us messages about the other person that we can interpret at an intuitive level. It is therefore necessary to get to know our own body language first. We should learn about it so that we can recognise it in others as well as in ourselves. In our daily lives we encounter many forms of body language gestures, these are a few examples:

    • Stress: shaking of legs
    • Lying: Face turned away, no eye contact, or looking to the left (fabricating information). Also wiping hands on trousers to get rid of sweat or fidgeting with hands
    • Aggression: Clenched fists, squaring of shoulders, stiffening of posture, tensing of muscles
    • Anxiety: Massaging temples, different than normal breathing rates, hunched shoulders, nervous head movements

But there are so much more signes of body language....

We all know of course the love signes  ....  i dont have to make a drawing of those...????

Turn ur face to the sun

    shadows will fall behind u

    Balance

what they lack in the other ...
    But is that so>?????

Maybe its for a short time....

    Anorexia

    Todays newspaper.............
A 19 year old girl in Montevideo ( a model) died of Anorexia..Half year ago her older sis ( also a model)died coz same disease.
She lived on cola light and salade....
The last fashion events in Milan and Madrid are  refusing very thin models ...But the London fashions week they allow very very thin models
Why  girls get the idea to loose weight...... even they are already very very thin....
The disease usually develops in adolescence -- right at the time when young people are supposed to be putting down the critical bone mass that will sustain them through adulthood.
As the body loses muscle mass, it loses heart muscle at a preferential rate -- so the heart gets smaller and weaker. "It gets worse at increasing ur circulation in response to exercise, and ur pulse and ur blood pressure get lower. The cardiac tolls are acute and significant, and set in quickly. Heart damage.....its killing..

    When babies see

...its really special how many babies are born last months...

and talking abt babies..we wondered in what stage a baby can see  dark/light ....colours....

A baby begins to see during the first few months of life as the eyes and visual system mature. A newborn has poor vision and is unable to focus on objects and can only see very big shapes and shadows. Their vision measures worse than 20/400, the biggest letter on an eye chart. By 3 months of age, objects the size of faces can be discerned by the baby's eyes. A one year old can see shapes the size of large newspaper print. Children do not attain 20/20 vision until approximately 4 years of age.

Babies can not fixate or track objects in their first 2 or 3 months of life due to their immature visual system. However, your baby should be able to fixate and track objects by 4 months of age. An infant's visual system is also unable to keep their eyes straight early in life. Most infants' eyes tend to drift outward. The eyes straighten as vision develops and infants begin to use their eyes together by 4 months.

The man asked the nurse if she would put his bed now to the window side...Of course   said the nurse.......
The man was alone in the room.....faught with himself  ... hands and feets to come to the window......dragged himself..He had to see what his good friend told him abt....  But how big was his amazement   ...He saw a big white wall....

    WhY Do We CrY

Yesterday .......Its was not My day
We can have such a days which we like to forget and never think abt it ever again...........................
But but but.........I asked myself why do i cry????? why am i not that strong to fight my tears.....
    Coz im a woman????????MAybe ???!!!
And why do ppl say Ur to old to cry????
Where does tears come from?? Where do tears start.......Oke in the eyes But something will activate them... Emotions ??? .....yeahhhhh
What do we feel when we cry???Does crying help???
WHy do we cry in a dark corner, with our hands before our eyes....and the palms of our hands get soaking wet.
We dont wanna see whats around us ???or we dont  wanna see the world ....see us crying ???
Tears I searched and found this explanation..

Basal tears keep our eyes lubricated constantly. Reflex tears are produced when our eyes get irritated, like with onions or when something gets into our eyes. The third kind of tear is produced when the body reacts emotionally to something. Each type of tear contains different amounts of chemical proteins and hormones. Scientists have discovered that the emotional tears contain higher levels of manganese and the hormone prolactin, and this contributes in a reduction of both of these in the body; thus helping to keep depression away. Many people have found that crying actually calms them after being upset, and this is in part due to the chemicals and hormones that are released in the tears.

Well it says Many ppl found that But i think im not            Many ppl .....Nooo Im Me a person who dont wanna cry of pain
did i ever mention i cry when im happy !!!!! and those tears i cherish ..When i see poor kids smile.....those lil things...mean so much for me..........the cry baby....(am i???)

    Men????

Read an article in  the newspaper
In Germany scientist did succeed to breed(or raise??) 7 mice out of artificial sperm..
Its a break through for men with fertility probs ..In future they would not have to use donor sperm.
They take genetic material from their own stamcells .or from embryos...
But the use of human embryos in this stamcell research is still a vexed matter.
    Respect for life.
coz see when there will be babies born out of this created artificial sperm coming from stam cells from embryos .than there will be an ethical  prob....Coz  in fact the father of the embryo is the father of this created baby....!!!! U still follow me???
First thing when i read this.....Ooohhh All men would start sweating   now...Asking themselves .Im not needed anymore for making babies.!!!!?????   OMG

But he   dont worry.......we need u still ... for carying bags  ..... and using ur  Credit cards
    Haha
dont mean that....     U know that   ...Just wanted to write this down.....wanted to be funny for a change.

    Hurt

Some people seem to get a kick out of hurting others or making them feel bad.
Is it that they feel bad themselves and want everybody else to be as miserable as them? Or is it that they need to make others feel bad in order to make themselves feel good?

Sometimes we think it does feel good, we got our revenge and all that. But it only feels good for a short while, and it leaves a bad aftertaste. And sometimes in order to avoid the bad aftertaste, we have to go even further to try and justify it.

    It's a losing game.

    adoption

This entry is for a close friend.....Hope u like it Jaime

Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a
    picture of a family.

One little boy in the picture had a different color hair
    than the other family members.

One child suggested that maybe he was adopted.

A little girl named Jocelynn Jay said, "I know all about
    adoptions because I was adopted."

"What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child.

"It means that you grew in your mommy's heart instead
    of her tummy." said Jocelynn.

    Childabuse

I read Mandeep Singh his blog abt sexual harassment.
and this topic kept me thinking...adult ppl can defend themselves   but what abt kids??????...Worse  worser  the worst........
Im not talking abt specific .. sexual abuse but ...abuse of any kind....Did  u know mental abuse can drive u mad!!!

    Child abuse must stop

Children need to know that they are a miracle..
that since the beginning of the world
    there hasn't been,
and until the end of the world
    there will not be
    another child like them.

This is a story of a boy called Cole
Its with the help of the Tennyson center this poor lil boy is saved
But the scars wil stay for ever.....in his heart

Tonight, eleven-year old Cole will eat dinner, do his homework, get ready for bed, hug

his parents  and fall asleep knowing that he is safe and loved. Sounds like a typical evening, right?

Not quite, because for most of his young life, Cole has only known pain and fear.

He can still remember being locked in a dark basement by his dad and told he must fight his siblings if

he wanted to eat.  He remembers that affection and love were shown through violence and aggression

and his own safety and survival depended on how well he could protect himself.

Eventually, Cole was taken away from his abusive parents.  But his experience with them was

traumatizing.  He grew aggressive, violent and emotionally detached.

To overcome his fears, Tennyson Center staff used grounding techniques.

Cole slept under weighted blankets, had flashlights and would help to lock the cottage doors at night

so he knew that nobody could hurt him.  When he wasn’t feeling safe, he would tell his staff that

he needed a hug and they would hold him until he calmed down.

One day, a couple who were interested in volunteering with a child came to Warren Cottage for a tour.

Cole was asked to show them around.  After the tour, he looked at the couple and said,

“I want you as my volunteers.”  And they agreed.  For the next 9 months, Cole looked forward to every

Tuesday and Saturday and eventually Sunday when he got to spend time with his volunteers.

A few months ago, Cole’s volunteers became certified foster parents.  They decided that they were meant

to help Cole as more than his volunteers.  “We believe that God put us together,” they said.

Today, Cole lives with his foster parents and attends a day treatment program in a public school.

So tonight as Cole falls asleep in his new home there will be 50 other children going to sleep in the cottages

at Tennyson Center.  Like Cole, they will each be struggling with their own fears, anger, pain, and sadness.

And like Cole, the staff will search for ways to reach each troubled child.  Because every child deserves

to know safety, hope and love.

The most wonderful of all things in life, I believe, is the discovery of another human being with whom one's relationship has a glowing depth, beauty, and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing, it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of Divine accident.

This morning I went for a haircut ...
In the salon was a neighbour  of mine    Her name is Christine.....I know she has a son  called Tom  his now 14 years old..is autistic. I know him well. Coz when he was a kid  he was riding his lil bike ... whole day  around our house... and when u tried to contact him......It was not possible...  Its like ur talking to a wall..

    Suddenly Christine  cried ......
It  was a waterfall     She told us .... Tom was now in a special boarding school now...But the guy is not understood by  teachers,,even by psychologists and psychiatrists..
He has no control over his attitude.....   Well he succeed for 5 minutes   Thats all. and in those  5 minutes he is loving and sweet  but he cant control it   ..After that he explodes over a stupid thing.....

Now  the guy is fourteen   he has a weight of 140 pounds.  In weekends his home   ....gets agressive .
Than he has no control of his actions......So  his parents are so afraid his doing himseelf or others harm.

As a parents U want HELP......But when even specialist  cant help...What to do.
I work in the Netherlands    There are special houses for such kids......But painfully   we live in Belgium and such
hospitals  are not in the neighbourhood.....

I wanna explain Autism ..  One Note    TOM is now 14 years old    and things gets worse.....  for how long
    before he gets hurt....

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities. One should keep in mind however, that autism is a spectrum disorder and it affects each individual differently and at varying degrees - this is why early diagnosis is so crucial. By learning the signs, a child can begin benefiting from one of the many specialized intervention programs.
